Overview & Responsibilities
Are you the “mystical Linux escalation point” in your company? When all else fails, do your front line techs escalate to you?

You are likely a Linux Ops “Guru” and Rackspace is in the market for your talents!

We are looking for a Linux Operations Administrator who will be a key element within the Rackspace support infrastructure and is expected to provide a high level of technical support to our customers over the phone and via support tickets. An Ops Administrator is the owner of complex customer issues which may take several days or weeks to resolve. The Ops Administrator applies create problem-solving techniques to identify the source of problems; while at the same time keeping the customer aware of every step along the way via the ticketing system.

In this role you will:

- Control call flow for the support team
- Monitor alerts and create tickets accordingly
- Handle level-appropriate customer support requests via the ticket system
- Escalate support requests (phone/ticket) according to escalation procedures
- Schedule and coordinate level-appropriate maintenance
- Provide basic troubleshooting of system services (i.e., Apache, Mail transfer agents (sendmail, postfix, qmail), FTP, SSH and DNS)
- Create and maintain customer loyalty by serving customers above and beyond their expectations
- Exercise judgment in decision-making in order to routinely deliver FANATICAL customer support

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Working knowledge of at least one programming/ scripting language (Bash, Shell, Python, PHP, etc.)
- Basic knowledge or familiarity with Web Servers, Backups, RAID, Package Management, Firmware, Directory Services, in a large scale production environment.
- Familiarity with large scale, distributed environments
- Good ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work in order to maintain required productivity levels
- Demonstrates basic problem solving abilities, coupled with a desire to take on responsibility
- Possesses good written and verbal communication skills; bi-lingual skills is a plus
- Due to the 24x7 operations of the business, must be able to work a flexible work schedule, may include nights, weekends, holidays, etc.

Guru (Preferred) Qualifications:

- Bachelor degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent work experience
- Technical certifications (i.e., RHCE, MCTSRHCT, A+, CompTIA, MySQL, CCNA, and CCIE) and/or demonstrable familiarity with Virtualization, CDN, Patching, HTML, Certifications, and Caching are a plus
- Familiarity with configuration management tools like Chef and Puppet
- Experience working with cloud technologies and APIs
